Our team is working to keep the animals in the path of Irma safe from harm. We’ve taken in more than 400 animals so far and are preparing for hundreds more.

So, what’s our biggest need right now? Right now, our biggest need is monetary donations. By donating online right now, you’re providing immediate support to the animals and your dollar is going right to where it is needed the most.

Looking to donate an item? We’ve receive mountains and mountains of donations from our incredibly supportive metro Atlanta community and are no longer in need of specific items at this time. We’ll provide updates if this changes!

Want to become a foster parent? If you are not already a foster for the Atlanta Humane Society, you unfortunately will not be able to temporarily house animals displaced from the hurricane or animals who came to us who were in shelters prior to the hurricane. We are required by law to do a home check before you become a foster parent and this process, especially during a time like this, is not immediate. We ask that you sign up to become a foster parent throughout the year and during times of need at atlantahumane.org/foster. Our foster program is extremely accommodating, you choose who you’d like to foster and how long you can foster for. We provide all supplies and medical needs.

Want to volunteer? Due to liability, we cannot accept volunteers to help with the animals unless you are already an Atlanta Humane Society volunteer. We encourage you to sign up to become a volunteer today and join our team so you can assist the shelter animals throughout the year and during times of need. You can sign up to become a volunteer with us at atlantahumane.org/volunteer.

Want to help in the field with disaster relief efforts? We require all of our disaster relief team to be FEMA-trained AHS staff, but if you’re interested in helping with disaster relief, please do not self-deploy. You can go through FEMA’s website and apply to assist in times of need and with temporary jobs during disaster situations.

Looking for disaster tips? The best way to be prepared for a hurricane is to prepare before the storm. You can find all of our disaster preparedness tips here.

What’s the best way to Track Irma? Our Animal Emergency Services team uses the National Hurricane Center’s hurricane tracking services to track all hurricanes, including Hurricane Irma.
